UMW Toyota Recalls 82,457 Toyota Concerning Airbag Cable Damage

UMW Toyota Motor is recalling a total of 82,457 units of Toyota models consisting of the Hilux, Innova, and Fortuner sold in Malaysia, produced from 2005 to 2010. The recall was made after receiving confirmation from Toyota Motor Corporation concerning a possible damage of a spiral cable on the affected models.

According to UMW Toyota’s statement, the recall pertains to a spiral cable assembly with electrical connections in the driver’s airbag module, which could be damaged when the steering wheel is turned.

Should this problem occur, the airbag warning light will illuminate and in addition, the driver’s airbag could be deactivated and would not deploy during a collision.

As a corrective measure, UMW Toyota will be conducting a Special Service Campaign to replace the spiral cable on the affected models with an improved unit.

UMW Toyota will contact all Hilux, Innova and Fortuner customers involved to carry out necessary corrective work at no cost to customers.

Other Toyota models sold by UMW Toyota Motor are not affected by the recall.
